15-Year Sony Pictures Veteran to Head the Publicity Department
CULVER CITY, Calif., September 7, 2016 – Marisa Liston has been promoted to Executive Vice President of Domestic Publicity for Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, overseeing the department, it was announced today by Andre Caraco, Co-President of Marketing, and Christine Birch, President of Marketing for the studio.
Liston, who reports to Caraco, will develop and oversee the key domestic publicity strategies on all feature films released by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation.
Liston most recently held the position of Senior Vice President of National Publicity, playing a key role in orchestrating and overseeing the national launch of a number of films each year. Her vast resume includes the four most recent James Bond films, including Skyfall, the most successful James Bond film of all time and the most successful film in the history of the studio; the Jump Street franchise; Sausage Party; Zero Dark Thirty; The Interview; Men in Black 3; The Da Vinci Code; This Is the End; Bad Teacher; Talladega Nights; Pineapple Express; Superbad; Zombieland; Julie & Julia; the two Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs films; Salt; 2012; Eat Pray Love; The Other Guys; Step Brothers; Big Fish; and The Grudge.
The two national teams now reporting to Liston are headed by Sara Reich, VP of National Publicity, and April Florentino, also VP of National Publicity, who previously served as Liston's second-in-command. Also reporting to Liston are Angela Galgani, SVP of East Coast Publicity; Mary Powell, SVP of Special Events; Gloria Hann, VP of Field Publicity; and Chrissy Quesada, VP of Still Photography.
Commenting on the announcement, Caraco, who led the publicity department from 2006 until his promotion this year, said, "Marisa's experience, strategic insight and natural ability to focus on effective tactics made her the best possible candidate to lead the publicity department. She is one of the most widely respected publicity executives in the industry and among our colleagues in the press, and she brings a strong voice and point of view to every campaign that makes it more well-rounded and focused. After working closely with her for 15 years, I've come to realize that her instincts and skills are second to no one in the business, so to say her promotion is well-deserved is an understatement."
Prior to her tenure at Sony Pictures, Liston worked at Baker-Winoker-Ryder, where she represented such actors as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jennifer Garner, Casey Affleck, David Spade, and Ryan Reynolds, among others. She also served a brief stint at 20th Century Fox.
